From First Coast to a HBCU
We have all met a Generation Z’er that are stereotypically categorized as entitled, selfish, and social media-driven, then thought to ourselves… “We were NEVER like that at their age!” However, once all the dust settles and you are able to see a clearing in the distance you will see what the light that Generation Z has spit out.
We can say what we want about that generation but I will say that it seems they are truly the generation to have their sights set high to do something better with the world in general. With the way that society is headed and our political status currently being broadcasted like a reality television show, it was more than time for the next wave of innovators to take over!
As a big advocate of empowering our youth and soliciting a higher quality of life specifically for generations Z and Y, this week I wanted to reach to find someone that holds true to what the next generation to lead our world is about while also blazing through and persevering to new heights not yet thought of.
At a local school in Jacksonville, Florida, an outstanding student set her sights high to leave a Buc to become a Bison. It is very easy to dream big and have those big dreams dropped due to the nay-sayers and the pressures that are placed upon us on a daily basis. However, there are some that are able to hold true to their dreams and make it out. Young black children of today have to worry about societal pressures while also #LIVINGWHILBLACK.
Amari Everett, a senior at First Coast High School applied for 10 colleges and got accepted into 5 and wait listed for 2. An outstanding student who has made some amazing decisions in reference to her education. Making the tough choice to attend the Early Admission, where she would attend FSCJ for the entirety of her senior year. Thus eliminating the social aspect of her senior year that her peers obtained. Not letting this stop her from fulfilling her plans she continued on and will be graduating on May 24th and then continuing her journey to college August 11, 2018 with already 30 college credits on her transcript.
Ladies and Gentleman let me introduce you to Amari Everett
So why Howard?
When asked why Amari wanted to join Howard her response was,
“I am going to be submerged in a place where I am surrounded by people that look like me and that think like me. Push me to achieve strengths I didn’t know I had and through all of my struggles that I come across I am going learn from them. Being in DC is a great location to have networking and truly build on who I am and what I want to become. Lastly, it’s the MECCA!! IT IS LIT! ”
Amari asks that you follow her on instagram to continue to follow her journey! With aspiration to be a Gynecologist you don't want to miss what her premed journey looks like from here. @aeverett__
